Turner Arbitration Chambers

Introduction

In 1989 seven experienced Construction Arbitrators believed that it would be beneficial to arrange a simple forum whereby they could meet from time to time to discuss arbitral matters and developments in dispute resolution. This became a useful discussion group and three further northern Arbitrators were invited to join in 1996. Members decided that a natural development of the group would be to form ‘Arbitration Chambers’, in title rather than substantive premises. The senior member of the group was Professor Ray Turner, a distinguished Arbitrator and past Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. The group decided with his consent to name the Chambers the Turner Arbitration Chambers and invited him to be the titular head of Chambers as an honorary non-practising member. Since that date there have been further changes to membership of Chambers most particularly after the sad death of Professor Michael J Needham after a long illness.
Disputes in the world of construction are inevitable and members of Chambers aim to provide the most appropriate forum for their resolution. Conciliation, mediation, expert evaluation, adjudication and arbitration can all be used, singly or in combination, to offer a cheaper and fairer alternative to litigation, whilst hopefully retaining good business relationships between disputants. Members also act as adjudicators and experts.

Turner Arbitration Chambers exists to promote the economic resolution of disputes. Chambers is not an appointing body.
